Participate

Thank you for your interest in our street gallery project. In order to participate, there are some things you should know and a few simple rules you must follow.

The Pacubox is to be contracted out free to anyone who would like to sign up to share and display a creative project. Content is not curated so anyone can express what they want within the neighborhood of their choice.

Each display box "residency" is to be running for 1 full season (three months) per participant. There are 4 residencies per box per year.

The Pacubox dimension is at 8"h x 7"w x 5"d, with a solar panel night-light system to display your work whenever it gets dark. We will supply you a 6"h x 6"w x 3.25"d "inner box" to construct your artwork within. You will receive this box at the time you sign a "participant agreement" at our office.

The Pacu office will also supply you a key to your box on the first day of your residency.

The box is yours, express yourself; you can update it as often as you like because you will have the key to it.

Read the Rules

Due to the sensitivity of having work shown in the public space, there are some rules for the participants to follow:

General

  • You can only sign up for a "residency" on our website.
  • You can sign up for any box at any location, for any season of your choice. Registration for each season will begin on the first day of the season prior to the one you are registering for (example: if you are signing up during Spring, you can only get access to a box that has not been requested for the Spring, or one available in the Fall).
  • Once you have signed up for a box at a specific location, you can not exchange it for another location.
  • If you are signing up for a box for someone under age, you will have to supply proof and sign a "Parent/Guardian Form" at the same time when you sign the "participant agreement" at our office.
  • After signing the residency agreement, try to install the artwork on the first day of the residency.
  • Absolutely no advertising or promotional intent allowed with displayed work.
  • Absolutely no slandering or ill intent allowed with your work.
  • Display piece should be an original creation, let's get creative!
  • Please try to avoid subject matter that may antagonize any vandalism to the box or your work.
  • If the work receive too many complaints, it is our responsibility to look into the matter. We don’t believe in judging anyone’s work but we are responsible in keeping the "street gallery" suitable for the public.
  • We understand since there are rules, someone will try to break them. PLEASE, approach this as an opportunity to inspire creativity in anyone who views your work. Let’s try to bring out the best in others, and "our" streets, because that is what inspired Pacu to begin this project.
  • The Pacubox project is not-for-profit. We appreciate everyone’s sincere contributions.

Residency

  • The participant is responsible for keeping the box in good, clean condition. This is your gallery space during the time of your residency, please do check up on it often to have your work being viewed under the best circumstances possible.
  • If you cannot attend the maintenance duty of you box for a stretch of time, please have a friend to check up on it for you.
  • In the event of any technical issues or major vandalism that’s beyond the scope of maintenance, Pacu will handle these issues. Please contact us ASAP to help you get the box up and running again.
  • The Pacu team has constructed the display boxes to be as sturdy as possible but they are not indestructible. In the event of your work being vandalized, stolen, or destroyed we cannot be held responsible.
  • The participant will supply his/her name or an alias, and the title of the work to be displayed. We will photograph the piece at our office, and the image will be displayed on the website along with the participant’s “artist statement”.
  • Our website will have a Gallery page focusing on current and archived work. We will moderate the message Forum with fairness, but we are not responsible for opinions about your work.
  • If you have updated your work during the residency, a new artist statement and photo documentation should be provided. We are available to help you with this anytime during our business hours, just book an appointment with us.
  • Participants must be responsible to abide by the following schedule, this will allow the gallery system to run as smoothly as possible (you should also check the Calendar to know when these specific deadlines are.)
    • From the first day of signing up, you will have one week to come to our office to sign the “participant agreement”, this activates your residency. You will also receive the inner box at this time.
    • On the first day of your residency come to our office to get the key to your box. At this time you will submit the artist statement and have a picture taken of your work for the website documentation. You should then install your work as soon as possible.
    • If you have not installed your artwork within the first three days of the residency, and you have not contacted us with an explanation, we may have to consider that you have forfeited your obligations and reassign the box to another artist.
    • On the last day of your residency you must clear out your box and return it’s key to us by 5PM. When returning the key please let us know the condition of the display box and if it needs any special attention. It is very important that you to return the key on schedule, if you choose to clear out a few days earlier, you can do so.
    • We really need you to return the key on schedule, if you choose to clear out a few days earlier, you can do so and come by the office with your key.
    • Unless we have been notified prior, failure to show up on any of the above dates will result in losing your residency. Please have someone act on your behalf if you cannot meet these obligations, however, a "representative" cannot sign your residency agreement - this is up to you. A person acting on your behalf will need to present the original documentation you have signed.
  • Keys for the display boxes are not to be duplicated except by us. You will be charged for a replacement if you lose your key to your display box.
  • In the event of not returning the key by 5PM on the last day of the season, you will be charged for having a new lock made for the box. PLEASE, help us to get the next season’s residencies started as quickly as possible and return your key on time.
  • The participant must sign a written contract agreeing to the above terms at the time of picking up your inner box to formally being the working relationship.
  • We will need your legal name and contact info for our office and the agreement.
  • If any of the above terms and conditions are broken, we will have to remove your work.

If any of the above terms and conditions are broken, we will have to remove your work. Yes, we know, that’s quite a lot of rules to follow but Pacu has to follow regulations as well to keep this project going. Please work with us.

Remember - get out of the box to make something within the box. This is to be displayed in public, so let's work together to share your creativity and inspire the people around you. Let’s make some art for our streets!
